No-Cook Mint Candy

1/3 cup softened butter
1/3 cup light corn syrup
1/2 tsp. salt
3 1/2 cups ( 1 lb ) sifted -confectioner sugar
1 tsp. mint flavoring (or other flavor of choice)
Food coloring

Measure all the ingredients into the large bowl.  (If you want more than one flavor/color, just mix the first three ingredients together.  Then separate into portions and knead the flavoring and coloring in.) Stir it with the wooden spoon until it becomes stiff. Then turn out onto a cutting board and knead it by hand until the dough is smooth.

Pinch off pieces, roll them into balls, and press them lightly with a fork to make a fancy butter mint.  Refrigerate them for 30 minutes, until they become firm. Cover with plastic wrap and store them in the refrigerator.

Makes about 1 1/2 lb.
